Pickle Ball

Pickle BallPickle ball was created during the summer of 1965 in Bainbridge Island, close to Seattle, Washington. The original purpose of the game was to provide a sport for the entire family according to its founders. It is a cross between ping pong and tennis and it is played on a smaller size court than tennis (44X20) with light weight wood paddles and a plastic perforated ball. Pickle ball is fun, easy to learn, and very good exercise without a lot of strain on the body.

Pickle ball is a great age, gender, and strength equalizer. “It places the emphasis on coordination, patience, and strategy, rather than strength or brute power” (Pickle Ball, Inc). It is a very social game and can be played either with 2 of 4 players. It is an excellent game for children and young people to release all their unused or excess energy without harming anyone. It provides an environment of competition that is also friendly, sometimes silly, and challenging. It is a great way to build a community environment while getting lots of exercise.

 

 

 

Kundalini Yoga Classes

Kundalini Yoga is the Yoga of Awareness. This ancient and powerful form of yoga was first brought to this country in 1969 by Harbhajan Singh Khalsa, known to his students as Yogi Bhajan. Kundalini Yoga uses posture-exercises, breathing and sound to integrate and balance body, mind and spirit. Through it, you can strengthen your nervous, glandular and immune systems. You can become more flexible and tone your muscles. Yoga increases mental energy and gives you a deep inner calm, and the strength and grace for meeting the daily challenges in your life. No previous yoga experience is necessary.

Shelley Conklin has been a student of Kundalini Yoga for seven years and has been a certified IKYTA teacher for 6 years. She studied under the supervision of Deva Kaur and Deva Singh Khalsa, two of Yogi Bhagan’s first students in this country. Yogi Bhagan gave Shelley the spiritual name Sat Nirmal Kaur, meaning “Princess of the Peaceful Flow of Truth”. She would like to share her knowledge so that others can experience the joy and peace that is possible through the practice of this yoga.

As trained leaders for the Contemplative Living Workshops, Liz Velazquez and Larry Weas will be facilitating workshops for adults and youths using the principles and values of Thomas Merton. The Bridges to Contemplative Living program is designed for small group dialogue with an emphasis on listening and contemplation, rather than discussion or argumentation. Respect for others beliefs, values and opinions are primary.
